International Relations as Shaped by National Behaviour

Defining international relations, it does not only mean the way countries handle peace and harmony with each other, it also means dealing with conflicts that have been existing or are going to crop out. International relations essays often discuss different theories behind the attitudes exhibited by different countries and as well as approaches to explain a certain national behaviour that might have an international impact. It is, however, sad to say that there is wide difference between what the theories are saying than what the real world is boldly demonstrating.

There are a wide range of theories that seek to explain the way a county act towards another. These theories, however, are oftentimes limited to a certain period in time and a certain location, and may not necessary reflect the behaviour of all countries in the world. Some international relations essays may focus on the classical theory of state behaviour. This theory attempts to explain why countries continue to seek new territories and thus wage war against each other. The theory states that all states or countries seek power, which is the main reason for their existence. A state having no power cannot be considered a one, and those having little capacity wait being devoured by larger and stronger neighbours. States continue to enlarge their territories by seeking land to conquer and make them their own.

Some international essays may also focus on the theory on constructivism, under which state policy is determined and dictated by a country’s set of culture, education, economy and religion. The country’s policies toward international relations may be in terms with how it is viewed in context with the national policy or even national sentiment. A country’s national policy may change overtime, especially if the attitude of the people is reined in by a powerful binder like religion or a political clan. The United States, for example, has habitually changed it policies towards waging war on other state’s territory, mostly due to sentiment of its citizens back home. They would now rather write research essays than watch their government wage unwinnable wars on foreign lands.
